Research - 2008 Summer/Fall Research Award (SRA) Program

The Institute for Security Studies recently invited proposals for the 2008 Summer/Fall Research Awards, from tenured or tenure-track faculty for research and scholarly projects on topics relating to security in the areas of commercial facilities, emergency management, counterterrorism, business continuity or resilience during a crises.

The intent of this award program is to help establish UNLV as a source of scholarly thought in the realm of homeland security and to add to the Institute for Security Studies' collection of original papers that illustrate the breadth and depth of UNLV faculty and student scholarship.

The participants awarded the funding will perform their work from June 6 through August 15, 2008. This program is just one of the many ways the ISS works with the UNLV researchers to expand knowledge in various fields associated with homeland security.

There were fifteen proposals submitted to the ISS in all, two of which will receive funding as recommended by an internal ISS panel augmented by selected subject matter experts. The proposals awarded funding were submitted by:

Dr. Mehmet Erdem, Assistant Professor of Hotel Management, College of Hotel Administration. His proposal was titled: "Disaster and Security Management of Human Resources: Identifying the Security Issues and Critical Success Factors for pre/post Katrina Hotel Industry in New Orleans."
