ISS February Security Forum on Private Sector Response a Success

UNLV’s Institute for Security Studies hosted and sponsored the fourth in their series of Security Forums on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, in the UNLV Foundation Building from 4 to 7 p.m. Titled: “A Forum on the Private Sector’s Response to an Emergency,” the event drew some 75 guests from the local business community, the university, and the security industry.

During the forum, leaders in the private sector were presented with an array of critical lessons learned during recent catastrophic events. The information was shared to help these private-sector leaders protect their businesses, staff, guests, and investments. Mr. C. David Shepherd, Co-Chairman for Resorts under Commercial Facilities Sector and CEO, Readiness Resource Group, made the presentation.

Following his presentation, Ms. Maureen Peckman, Commissioner, Nevada Commission on Homeland Security, led an open discussion that culminated in the formation of a “Private Sector Advisory Council” whose members, as leaders in the private sector, can receive information from and present their concerns about security-related matters to leaders in the Nevada government.
