ISS Advances "Terrorism Awareness DVD" Project

In support of the Nevada Governor's Commission on Homeland Security, UNLV's Institute for Security Studies (ISS) is coordinating the production of a training DVD aimed at providing a concise terrorism awareness message. The DVD, which will be available for use by any business or agency within the state of Nevada, will teach the "Seven Signs of Terrorism" and will explain how to report such signs to Counter Terrorism Centers.

The ISS recently presented the proposed Nevada Terrorism Awareness DVD concept to the Commission on Homeland Security, which unanimously approved the project. The DVD, which will be produced in English and Spanish, will be distributed to groups in Nevada that are believed to be those most likely to be in a position to observe the signs of a potential terrorism plot. Those groups include workers in the fields of general security, public school security, airport security, transit (including cab drivers), and hospitality (particular those employed in public areas of hotels).

There are five members of the management team for this DVD project, all with extensive backgrounds in the security field. They are Lieutenant Tom Monahan of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD); Vice Chairman of the Governor's Homeland Security Commission Jerry Keller (former Sheriff of LVMPD); Sergeant Ken Heffner, LVMPD project coordinator; Major General (Retired) Scott Smith, ISS Executive Director; and Ross Bryant, ISS Director of Training.

To learn more about the project, please contact Ross Bryant at (702) 939-4644.
