Iss Agrees to Host Security Forum on Private Sector Response to Emergencies

UNLV's Institute for Security Studies will host and sponsor the fourth in a series of security forums. Titled "A Forum on the Private Sector's Response to an Emergency," the event will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the UNLV Tam Alumni Center.

The forum will present to leaders in the private sector an array of critical lessons learned during recent catastrophic events that will help them protect their businesses, staff, guests, and investments. The presentation will be made by Mr. Dave Shepherd, Co-Chairman for the National Commercial Facilities Coordinating Council, a council sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security.

Following the presentation, Ms. Maureen Peckman, acting as a member of Gov. Gibbons' Commission on Homeland Security, will lead an open discussion that is intended to culminate with the formation of a "Private Sector Advisory Council." It is anticipated that the council's members, as leaders in the private sector, will receive information from and present their concerns about security-related matters to leaders in Nevada government.

The forum will be free and open to the public. For more information contact Major General (Retired) Scott Smith, ISS Executive Director, or Ross Bryant, ISS Director of Training, at (702) 939-4625.
