Vision
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas’ Institute for Security Studies will be a widely known, responsibly managed, highly respected organization that helps position UNLV as a nationally recognized source of excellent research, training, studies, and education in the fields of homeland security and combating terrorism.
Mission
Our mission is composed of three complementary and interlocking elements.
- Combine the educational and research capabilities of a premier urban university to train, teach and expand the body of knowledge related to homeland security, energy security and counter-terrorism.
- Educate professional groups, inform the interested public, and conduct research related to critical issues.
- Work for and in partnership with state agencies, private industry, and law enforcement.
Our mission is reflected in the five main areas of the ISS' work:
- Research: Builds partnerships to conduct research on security-related topics.
- Outreach: Sponsors Security Forums & other public education activities.
- Training: Sponsors training for law enforcement & medical responders with accredited curricula that enhance infrastructure preparedness, information sharing, and life support responsiveness.
- Energy Security: Works to establish an Energy Security Policy Center.
- Seek Funding: Vigorously seeks competitive grant funding from Federal, state and private sources.
