ISS to Launch Nevada "Seven Signs of Terrorism" DVD
The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) will launch the Nevada “Seven Signs of Terrorism” DVD on August 6, 2008. The ISS, in support of the Nevada Governor’s Commission on Homeland Security and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), has coordinated the production of the training DVD aimed at providing a concise terrorism awareness message. The DVD, which will serve the entire state of Nevada, will illustrate the “Seven Signs of Terrorism” and will explain how to report such signs to the Southern Nevada Counter-Terrorism Center.
The DVD, which will contain both an English and Spanish version, will be distributed to groups in Nevada that are believed to be those most likely to be in a position to observe the signs of a potential terrorism plot. Those groups include workers in the fields of general security, public school security, airport security, transit (including cab drivers), and hospitality (particular those employed in public areas of hotels).
The August 6th DVD roll-out event will be held at the Foundation Building at UNLV from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. After an introduction by ISS Executive Director Scott Smith, Dr. Dale Carrison, Chair of the Nevada Commission on Homeland Security; Rick Eaton, Director of the Nevada Department of Homeland Security; and Lieutenant Tom Monahan of the LVMPD will make brief remarks after which the 15-minute video will be shown. The event will conclude with the distribution of the DVDs.
The management team for the DVD project has five members, all with extensive backgrounds in the security field. They are Lieutenant Monahan of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD); Vice Chairman of the Governor’s Homeland Security Commission Jerry Keller (former Sheriff of LVMPD); Sergeant Ken Heffner, LVMPD project coordinator; Major General (Retired) Scott Smith, ISS Executive Director; and Ross Bryant, ISS Director of Training.
